Interesting take on The Devil card…

Hello.

I went to my Tarot meet up on Friday.  As usual there were some very nice people there.

After a few of the people left those who stayed ended up talking about “The Devil” card as it had come up in a reading that night. The person with that card in her reading  said that it didn’t make sense with the other cards. Another group member said that, in his opinion, it represents things that we agree to be chained to. What?! Well that stopped me in my tracks. I usually see The Devil card as addiction, deep seated emotional issues, or vice, I rarely see it as being in a situation that we have happily agreed to. Hmmmmm I guess that the only reason it caught my attention was the fact that I had gotten a general e-mail earlier in the day that said, “don’t feel sorry for whatever situation you are in because you are never doing anything that you somehow didn’t agree to do”. I’m not sure how I feel about that statement. I mean I guess to some extent, a very literal one, it is true. We do make ALL of the choices that define our path. My only gripe with a statement like that is it only really applies if you don’t have other people in your life, or if you never take others into consideration when making your decisions. I mean sure I can decide that I want to change my life, location or whatever, pack up my car and drive until I run out of gas, but there are people in my life that count on me. “No man is an island” as they say…

I have an overdeveloped sense of responsibility and guilt and I can’t imagine just dropping everything and heading out, or making a decision without taking anyone in my life into consideration, except me and my desires at the moment.

What do you think?

Blessings all!
Love and light
